It’s the little things….

If you’ve been following our journey for a while, you will know that often it’s small things that bring simple joy to us.

In the past week, we have both celebrated our birthdays, me my 54th, and Sandy his 43rd. These occasions were marked by the outpouring of so many kind messages and words to us both, and one gesture from a local friend which was both unexpected and delightful. Driving well out of her way, she brought a basket of goodies and a cake to mark our birthdays, and it definitely filled us both with absolute joy.

Another milestone occurrence this week, was the arrival of the very last of our personal effects from Calgary, where they’d been stored since we left. While it was a logistical and financial nightmare, it’s arrival here has brought both a boost of joy, but also a final closure from our lives in Calgary.

These may seem like small and insignificant events to the average reader of these blogs, but in the bigger picture it is a reminder to all…

Small things, tiny gestures, kindness and sincerity can absolutely make a difference. We live in a world fraught with anger, selfishness, and transactional help. And yet it takes no effort to be kind, courteous or put the needs, wellbeing and happiness of others first. And perhaps that’s where we could fix the other issues our world faces.

Being kind doesn’t hurt the giver, it enriches the recipient, and feeds the soul of the giver. We need more people in the world who give and do not count the cost, nice from a place of ge June care, love, kindness and consideration for others, without judgement or expectation of reciprocity.

And in a world where you can be anything, be kind.
