Mid November…. already.

It’s hard to believe it’s already mid November. We just blinked and the summer was gone and now we’re decidedly in the middle of winter.  While last week’s snowfall was relatively big (15cm or so), we have had about 1-2 cm every few days this week. And while we were fortunate to have been able to get to town last Tuesday, with what’s expected for snow over the next few days, it’s not looking hopeful that we can drive out again til spring, or unless someone plows the road.

The forecast shows 17.5cm of snow today, and a further 8.3cm for tomorrow, which is nearly 26cm by end of the weekend. That’s a significant amount, and while it’s a frustrating hindrance, I have to admit, it’s truly beautiful.

We have continued daily to diligently work on the build out. It’s quite a complex construction, and it takes a lot of patience and energy to fit pieces together, rather like a Mechano set that came without instructions or any direction, but you also have to create the pieces for it.

Creating those pieces is a challenge too with our limited tools. We have a small handsaw, the chainsaw, hammers and chisels, but we don’t have a saw mill, circular saw or skill saw, all of which would be invaluable. It is assuredly our goal as soon as we can afford to get a saw mill. The difference that will make to all manner of construction here I can’t even begin to say.

We do however, press on regardless of the limitations of our tools. And we have both started noticing that repetitive actions are producing better and better results as we hone our skills. But progress is slow, because of those tools too.

The biggest downside for us this week has been a lack of sun. This means a distinct lack of power and charge on the camper and solar stations. I mean that we don’t get to spend much time at all online, as Starlink requires power. We have ordered a Starlink Mini, which supposedly runs off 12v, but as of writing this, it hasn’t even shipped yet, and at this point, we can’t pick it up, so we may have to ask someone locally to pick it up for us and hold onto it until spring.

Despite the lack of sun, we’ve been managing to keep our spirits up. Seeing progress, and seeing pieces of the build out come together give us both a boost, and by the end of every day we know we’re getting closer.

We look forward to sharing the final product with everyone, but it may be a while yet before we can. Until we have a decent charge, uploading to YouTube is pretty much impossible, as, depending on video length, it can take over an hour to upload a video.
