The Bitter-Sweet end of a Chapter

It’s been almost 3 weeks of stress about the truck. From discovering that it needed far more work than originally thought, and failing safeties, to being left with complete strangers for body work.

I won’t bore you with all the details, but I’ll skip to the end. Perhaps when I expand this story into book format, I’ll delve Into the smaller events of it. For now, let me sum up as follows:

The truck has had body work done and mechanical work which pushed the envelope of our funds and budget well beyond what we had originally intended spending. Through some work and through kindness of supporters the truck has now been safetied and permanently plated, legal for the roads of Ontario, and the stress of the last few weeks has been lifted.

And now we have the truck back, we’re working on the final few days here in Toronto before we head back up north to the camper. The goal is leaving Toronto on Monday, and settling in to the camper on Monday late afternoon.

It’s definitely going to be bitter sweet. We have thoroughly enjoyed our time in Toronto, meeting up with friends and family and being in such close proximity to those who so genuinely support our journey. It’s been a blessing, and leaving will not come without some sorrow.

But the forest is calling, and we’re itching to return. We have new ideas, and a new perspective on so many things. The break from the constant push has been wonderful for our mental health, and while we may have allowed ourself some letting go physically, we have allowed ourselves a mental break from the pace we held ourselves to before heading to Toronto.

We have made some adjustments to our methods of approaching this year up north. Our focus, while always on progress and building, is also to allow ourselves to step back and take in our surroundings.

We are privileged to own a piece of some of the most beautiful Boreal forest and have had ourselves so focused on completing tasks and builds that we haven’t given ourselves permission to stop and enjoy it.

So this summer, in amongst all the chores, construction, clearing, prep and projects, we will take a moment as often as we can to reflect on how far we have come, where we are, and why we got there to begin with.

We hope you will continue to enjoy the journey with us, and maybe we’ll even inspire one or two of our followers to follow their own Off grid dreams. It’s an honour to have you join us on our journey to Our Better Life.
