If you’ve ever moved in winter, you know.
If you’ve ever moved across Canada, you really know.
If you’ve ever done both, towing a 26-foot fifth wheel packed with your entire life…
Welcome to the club.
We left Calgary on January 3rd — later than planned, stressed to the max, but holding onto the dream with white knuckles and hopeful hearts. Our goal? Make it to Northern Ontario without losing our minds, our axles, or our fingers.
Night one: Brooks, Alberta. Truck stop sleep in the cab because the camper was still too full to use.
Night two: Baloney, Saskatchewan. Sandwiched between diesel semis in freezing fog with exhaust fumes in our faces.
Night three: Blessed rest — a generous soul covered a hotel stay in Richer, Manitoba. A warm bed felt like heaven.
But that wasn’t the hard part.
The real test came on the rollercoaster roads of northwestern Ontario — winding hills, steep inclines, and zero shoulder. Halfway through, in the dark, our camper’s power hitch cable disconnected, leaving us without brakes or lights. For hours.
No pull-off. No safety net. Just us, a 40-foot rig, and transport trucks screaming past.
We made it. Somehow.
Thunder Bay, then Longlac, then finally — Cochrane, Ontario. About an hour from our property. And just in time for the furnace to die.
Yeah. This journey has had moments.
But there were also roadside coffees, silly moments in the snow, and friends — old and new — who showed up in beautiful ways.
It wasn’t polished. It wasn’t easy.
But it was real.
And now? We’re here. Cold, tired, and still very much in love with this ridiculous, beautiful dream.
